Boiling temperature by altitude
Enter the altitude in metres: the tool shows the boiling point of water and the drop versus sea level (100 °C).
Benchmarks
| Altitude | Boiling |
|---|---|
| 0 m | 100 °C |
| 1,500 m | ≈ 95 °C |
| 2,000 m | ≈ 93 °C |
| 3,000 m | ≈ 89 °C |

Frequently asked questions
Why does water boil lower at altitude?
Atmospheric pressure drops with altitude; water reaches its boiling point at a lower temperature.
Impact on cooking?
At 2,000 m water boils around 93 °C: pasta, rice and eggs need a bit more time.
Is the formula exact?
It is a good approximation (≈ 100 − altitude ÷ 285), enough for cooking.
